Is Cindy Crawford trying to steal the spotlight from her model daughter Kaia Gerber? That’s the premise behind an article in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop, however, looked into the claim and can exclusively correct it.
According to OK!, Gerber wants Crawford to “back off.” While Crawford is one of the most famous models ever, her daughter “wants to make a name for herself” in the industry. A person only identified as an “insider” is quoted as telling the publication, “Kaia was on the red carpet at the British Fashion Awards [on December 10] and Cindy kept getting in every one of her shots.”
Gerber, who was awarded Model of the Year, at the fashion event, “had to ask her mom to get out of the frame,” contends the outlet. The same unnamed and untraceable source asserts, “Kaia’s getting annoyed with the way Cindy hovers over her… She’s always proposing they do magazine shoots together, when she knows Kaia wants her own carer.” “It’s almost as if Cindy needs to remind the world that she came first,” adds the tabloid’s anonymous tipster.
Among the red flags the publication’s article is questionable is that its “insider” alternates between being an eyewitness at the Fashion Awards in London and then someone who supposedly knows how Crawford is “always proposing” they do photoshoots together. Also, Gerber has been vocal about the lessons she’s learned from Crawford. In a British Vogue interview just a few months ago, the young model not only recalled how her mother taught her to “follow your instincts” with modeling jobs, but also about the importance of “helping other people.”
And while the tabloid hides behind a nameless “insider,” who offers no proof whatsoever, Gossip Cop reached out to Gerber and Crawford’s mutual rep. We’re told in unambiguous terms, “None of it is true.” Of course, a simple search of photos of Kaia Gerber at the Fashion Awards yields plenty of solo pictures on the red carpet, as well as images with her famous mom, dad, and even two-shots with her brother Presley. By the magazine’s faulty reasoning, they all must be trying to steal Gerber’s spotlight.
We’re not entirely surprised by the falsity of the report, having previously corrected OK! for its inaccurate articles about that famous family. This past June, for example, Gossip Cop busted the same outlet when it falsely maintained Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber were headed for a divorce. In that untrue cover story, another (or perhaps the same) misinformed anonymous tipster said the couple would be “divorced by the end of the year.”
Much like how the current report tries to pit daughter and mother against each other, Gossip Cop also debunked the same outlet when it similarly attempted to cast Gerber against fellow model and friend Kendall Jenner. Maybe the tabloid should try to steal Gossip Cop’s emphasis on fact-checking. At least that way it would get fewer stories wrong about Gerber and Crawford.
