The offer was made up by the local council of the small Greek island of Antikythera that intends to restore life to the beautiful land, which currently has only 24 permanent residents.

Everyone who decides to move is promised to get 500 euros per month for the next three years. But first, the potential residents will need to communicate with the locals and earn their approval. Those who pass the selection will be given not only a house but also a land lot for their business or farm.

The goal is to find families with at least three children who are willing to move and live on the island of Antikythera on a permanent basis. The authorities will provide each family not only with a monthly wage but even free food if they move to the island.

Mayor of the island Andreas Harhalakis told the Greek website Iefimerida: “We are looking for many families to ‘revive’ our island.”

Antikythera is a small island in the Aegean Sea, located near Kythira, a larger island, and about halfway between Crete and Peloponnese. Despite their remote location, both Kythira and Antikythera belong administratively to the Greek capital. Both are part of the Attica region.

There are three towns on the island – Potamos, which is the capital of the island, Galanianá and Charchalianá.

Since the project to attract young families to the island has been made public, more than fifteen families have contacted a local council to find out more detailed information about the plan.

Also, Antikythera doesn’t have any banks or ATM machines, but it has one shop.

The president of the council says that the locals are ready to host anyone who would like to stay on the island in order to gain experience of his lifestyle. This is considered important for families to make the right decision to move there permanently.

Antikythera is known worldwide for its ancient bronze mechanism, which was discovered as a result of a shipwreck in April 1900 by a group of divers. Called by archaeologists, the Antikythera Mechanism, is, in fact, an ancient analog computer used to predict astronomical positions as well as planet eclipses.

It is considered one of the greatest scientific treasures ever found in the world.
