Lil Nas X deals with backlash over coming out as gay: “I’m not angry… because I understand how they want that reaction”.

The American Rapper’s fame grew from his hit song “Old Town Road” with Billy Ray Cyrus, and now, Lil Nas has come out to the world as gay. Even though he received a lot of support, the songwriter opened up about the negative response he had to deal with after coming out.

His coming out

Lil Nas revealed his sexual orientation on the last day of Pride month. He guided fans through a tweet to listen to his new song c7osure, more carefully. His lyrics held the message of growth, he sang, “Ain’t no more actin’, man that forecast say I should just let me grow” and “Brand new places I’ll choose and I’ll go, I know
Embracin’ this news I behold unfolding”

He later took to Twitter again to post the album art for the eight-song EP, ‘7’ he’s been working on. The artwork shows Lil Nas in his iconic cowboy gear with rainbow lights shining down on him. The buildings behind his character also featured the rainbow colors.

Miley Cyrus took to Instagram to show her support for Lil Nas as he came out to the public. She posted a photo of herself with the Rodeo singer. She wrote, “O proud of my baby brother @lilnasx 🌈❤️🌈❤️ In your corner forever my friend!”

Lil Nas X interview with BBC

In an interview with BBC Breakfast, the Panini singer shared how he dealt with the hate. “I’m not angry… because I understand how they want that reaction,” he said, “So I’m just going to joke back with them.”

The 20-year-old also shared that coming out isn’t easy in both Country and the Hip Hop communities. He also expressed that he felt as if he was “opening doors” for more people” and that they might feel “more comfortable”

Furthermore, he stated, “It’s something that, you know, I was considering never doing, ever. Just taking it to the grave or something. But I don’t wanna live my entire life, especially how I got to where I’m at not doing what I wanna do.”

He then addressed the anti-gay backlash he received on the internet, “Learning the internet over the past couple of years, I used to be that person being negative. So, it’s like, I’m not angry or anything because I understand how they just want that reaction.”
