Orlando Bloom believes he is too old to play Legolas in new Lord of the Rings series produced by Amazon.
The 42-year-old actor is famously known for playing Legolas, an elf, in the Lord of the Rings movies by Peter Jackson. However, he stated that he will not be appearing in Amazon’s Lord of the Rings television series.
Bloom is currently starring in the movie ‘Carnival Row‘ alongside Cara Delevingne. During a panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Saturday, a reporter asked Bloom whether he will reprise his role in the LOTR TV show.
He replied, “It’s funny, I remember being on set with Peter [Jackson] 20 years ago now and he was saying, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny to think about when they want to do a remake of Lord of the Rings‘”.
“We were in the midst of this remarkable shoot, and I was like, ‘Never going to happen, never going to happen!’” Bloom continued.
He laughed and said, “Here I am working for Amazon and they’re re-doing it. I don’t know how they’re going to approach it. I haven’t had any conversations about that”.
While talking about his own character the Pirates of the Caribbean actor claimed, “I like to think of myself as ageless but…I don’t know where I would fit in that world, really. If you’re saying there’s Legolas, they’ve probably got a 19-year-old kid who’s ready to go.”
His Carnival Row co-star Cara Delevingne disagreed with his statement calling him “amazing.”
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will be creating the Amazon series. The plot will be based on events before J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring.”
Bloom’s Carnival Row will premiere on August 30.
